Some Lesser Known Facts About Prince Al-Waleed

  • He was born into a religious royal family in Saudi Arabia.

  • Waleed had always expressed his desire to join the Saudi Arabian Army as an officer; therefore, he used to follow a strict routine like military personnel.
  • After completing his primary and secondary education in Riyadh, he was chosen to attend further studies at a military college in the United Kingdom.
  • In 2005, while he was studying in the United Kingdom, he was involved in a fatal car accident. Due to this, he sustained numerous injuries, including a brain haemorrhage and slipped into a coma. The other passengers who were travelling with him only sustained some non-serious injuries and survived.
  • Prine Al-Waleed was declared clinically dead by the time he was brought into a hospital for treatment. Soon after, a fatwa was also issued, declaring him deceased.
  • After initial treatment in London, he was shifted to Riyadh, where he was admitted to the King Abdulaziz Medical City, where he was put on a ventilator.
  • After several months of trying, the doctors advised his parents to remove him from the ventilator; however, his parents refused to do so.
  • In 2018, his father was arrested by Saudi officials on the orders of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as he has often raised his voice against the ruling royal family and has called for a reform to make Saudi Arabia a democracy.
  • In 2019, he made headlines when he showed some improvement and started responding by lifting his fingers and moving his head, but the responses soon ended, and he once again slipped into a coma.

  • Since then, there have been no documented signs of improvement.
