Some Lesser Known Facts About Abyusif

  • Abyusif’s journey into music started in his early childhood, which was influenced by his father, who was a professional jazz drummer.
  • Recalling the days when he started to delve into music, Abyusif was quoted as saying in one of his interviews that

In the fourth grade. I was approached by older kids who thought it would be funny to have a kid as a drummer. It broke my dad’s heart when I asked him to teach me Twist and Shout by the Beatles.”

  • His father blamed the English rock band ‘The Beatles’ and their mainstream popularity for jazz’s decline back then.
  • Although Abyusif initially received praise for his performances, he soon realised he disliked playing other people’s music and decided to create his own.
  • Growing up, Abyusif was very westernised, and he used to watch Hollywood films and listen to foreign music.
  • Abyusif began his career in 2008, and initially, he was a metal drummer in a university band.
  • His desire to pursue more music also made him have an interest in playing guitar, which automatically led him into the Metal music genre. But at that time in Egypt, most Metal bands just played cover songs and pretended that those songs were their own. So Abyusif started writing his own songs and formed a band called ‘Idle Mind.’
  • Talking about his love for guitar playing, he was quoted as saying that

My favourite thing to do in this world is play guitar, even more than Rapping….but Metal didn’t work out it as it was always like, 15 people and a couple girls who had heard Deftones before.”

  • Abyusif’s entrance into the Hip-Hop field was due to one of his long-time friends and collaborators, named Omar Bam Bam. Bam Bam got him into Rap while he was still playing Metal music.
  • They both started a band called ‘Overlord of the Brewing Women’ and they hoped it would sound like the American rock band named ‘Rage Against the Machine.’ But their guitarist loved the English rock band named ‘Pink Floyd’ so much that their music turned out kind of strange. Abyusif termed their music like “Jimi Hendrix playing with a rapper.”
  • The band ‘Overlord of the Brewing Women’ that they started eventually dissolved, and each member went their separate way, but the experience left Abyusif with a new passion for Hip-Hop music.
  • Five years later, Omar Bam Bam and Abyusif got back together, but both had switched paths. Bam Bam had picked up the guitar, while Abyusif had given it up and started rapping.
  • Omar Bam Bam taught Abyusif about the flow of rapping while another one of his friends, named Dousha, taught him techniques and how to use terminology that is exclusively Egyptian rap.
  • Abyusif soon realised that flow and technique were not enough to make a good Arabic rapper. He came to terms with the need to add punch lines that connect with Egyptians, their pop culture, and their lifestyles.
  • Soon after, Abyusif then formed a band with his close friend and producer, Ahmed Al-Ghazuli (who goes by Swag Lee). They called the band 372, which stands for ‘3andak 7aga 2olha,’ meaning ‘If you have something to say, say it.’
  • He also mentioned in one of his interviews that he regrets not listening to enough Egyptian music.
  • While writing his raps, Abyusif goes by four rules, which are not rapping about anything derogatory towards women as he prefers to paint women as players and not someone degraded.
  • Another rap rule of Abyusif is to never rap about politics because he thinks political views always change, and that would make songs meaningless when they do. His third rule is to never rap about any religion, as he believes that religion is a personal relationship between each person and God.
  • His last rule of rap is that he avoids insulting other rappers, but if he ever does, he makes it clear he’s only sharing his own opinion.
  • Most of Abyusif’s songs are in Arabic, and though he can rap in English, he prefers not to. Detailing about the reason, he was quoted as saying in one of his interviews that

I have a few verses but I have a personal problem with rapping in English. I can’t find a dialect or accent that is sincere. It ends up sounding like I am trying to copy someone else.”

  • Before getting into rap, Abyusif started his career as a copywriter. He worked at top Egyptian advertising agencies like ‘KingTutsPlayground.’ He was very good at writing and marketing, and built up a lot of experience in the field.
  • In rap, Abyusif became known for making up different characters, like Hany, Mazen, and Ameer. Each had their own style, which he put into his songs, making his music more interesting and unique.
  • In 2018, he started his self-named YouTube channel and started uploading his songs on the same. His YouTube channel holds more than 1 million subscribers, as of 2025.
