Some Lesser Known Facts About Ahlam

  • Ahlam was born to an Emirati father and a Bahraini mother. She grew up in a well-to-do Muslim family in Abu Dhabi.
  • She developed an interest in music at a very young age, and while she was studying in school, Ahlam often used to sing for school plays.
  • As a child, she also used to perform at various local music events.
  • Ahlam always wanted to make a career in music. However, growing up in a conservative society like the UAE, she was not allowed to take the path of singing by her family.
  • It took her three years to persuade her mother to pursue a career in music. In an interview, while talking about it, she said,

    I come from a big family in UAE… it was difficult for me to sing. My mother’s approval was the most important thing for me, and it took me nearly three years to make her accept it. After that, I don’t care for anyone else. That is it. I took my decision to become a singer.”

  • In 1993, Ahlam signed her first contract to produce her debut music album Ahbak Moot (I Love You Till Death), which was released in 1995.
  •  A year later, she released her music album Ma’aa Al Salamah (Goodbye) in 1996.
  • Some of her popular music albums include Kaif Artha (How Do I Accept) (1997), Ma yeseh Ela El Saheeh (Nothing is Right But Right) (1998), Tabee’ee (Natural) (1999), Mekhtlef (Different) (2000), Le Elmak Bas (Just To Let You Know) (2001), Ahsan (Better) (2003), El Thokol Sana’a (Weight) (2006), and Hatha Ana (This Is Me) (2009).
  • In 2003, Ahlam was crowned the Queen of Arab Art at the Doha-Qatar Festival. She was honoured by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the United Arab Emirates on the occasion. After the event, people in Arab countries began calling her ‘The Queen.’

  • In an interview, Ahlam revealed that she had participated in the Doha-Qatar Festival for six years, and the tickets to her concerts were always sold out.
  • Ahlam has participated in many music festivals in the Arab regions like Dubai, Kuwait, and Doha.
  • She has performed at various music festivals in western regions, including the Washington Festival in the US and the Albert Hall Festival in the UK. She has also performed at the Dolby Theatre.

  • Ahlam is the first Arab artist to have performed twice at the UNESCO Festival and the Ledo Festival in France.
  • She has been a judge on the music shows Arab Idol and MBC’s The Voice: Ahla Sawt.
  • In 2021, she released her music album Love Of Your Eyes.

  • In 2024, there were rumours about the separation of Ahlam from her husband Mubarak Al-Hajri. However, in an interview, Mubarak Al-Hajri refuted the rumours and asked his followers make sure before sharing such false news, stressing that his relationship with singer Ahlam was eternal and only death would separate them.
  • Unlike many Arab singers and actresses, Ahlam has disclosed on various occasions that she undergoes different cosmetic procedures like mesotherapy, facial masks, and Botox.
