Some Lesser Known Facts About Ahmed Magdy
- Ahmed entered the world of art during his university time when he joined the “Al-Tami” theatre group, where he worked as an actor and assistant director for 3 years.
- After making his debut short film in 2007, Ahmed participated in a workshop titled Al Zat Wa Al Madina – Al Qahira (The Self and the City- Cairo), through which he directed his second documentary film, ZIZO (2007).
- After directing his second documentary, Ahmed took admission in the School of Cinema, where he graduated after directing the film Cream Cake (2008). The film won the Jury Award at each of the Algerian Independent Film Festival and the Jordan Independent Short Film Festival. The film also won the Silver Hawk award at the Arab Film Festival in Rotterdam.
- Ahmed was a jury member of the Short Films Competition Jury at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2012.
- Madgy enjoys photography and can also play numerous instruments. He also practices contemporary dance.
- In 2013, Magdy received the SANAD Development Grant from the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and the AFAC Production Grant in 2014 for his directorial debut film, The Giraffe (2018).

- Ahmed’s film, The Giraffe, had its world premiere at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival (SIFF) in November 2018. The film received critical acclaim, especially from Lebanese film critic Mohammed Rouda at the Marrakech International Film Festival, who described it as the best Arab film of the year.
- Ahmed is an environmentalist and is often seen spreading awareness on his social media handles. He participated in a campaign that calls for limiting the use of plastic products using #KefayaPlastic (#EnoughPlastic) on his Instagram page.
