Some Lesser-Known Facts About Rania Elwani
- Rania Elwani developed a love for swimming from a very early age, starting at the age of five.
- She began competing in junior-level competitions at the age of eight and became the top swimmer in Egypt by the time she was 13.
- She was a member of the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs (college sports team) between 1997 and 1999.
- In the all-time top ten performers list of the Mustangs published by the SMU in January 2025, she was featured in the categories 50m freestyle (rank 6) and 100 m freestyle (rank 5).
- After she retired from competitive swimming in 2000, she has been involved in other areas such as commentating and training.
- In 2004, she became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a non-governmental international sports governing body for the Olympic Games.
- In 2005, she co-founded the Elwani Swimming Academy and has been its sports management consultant since then.
- In 2010, she became a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Athletes Committee. The agency comprises the International Olympic Committee and the governments of over 140 nations in the fight against drugs in sports.
