- Rima Fakih was born in Srifa, Lebanon, in the middle of the Lebanese Civil War.
- She grew up in a Shia Muslim family in the Souk El Gharb village in Lebanon.
- As a toddler, Rima experienced shelling at their home, hiding in shelters, and sleeping empty stomach at night.
- When she was 7 years old, Rima moved with her family from Lebanon to New York City to escape the effects of the Lebanese Civil War.
- In New York, her family got settled in Jackson Heights, Queens, where her family faced discrimination.
- Her father opened a restaurant in Manhattan, whose business started to decline after the attacks in the United States on 11 September 2001.
- In 2003, Rima, along with her family, moved to Dearborn, Michigan. Michigan, at that time, was home to one of the largest Arab American population.
- In Michigan, Rima began working various small jobs to earn a living. One of her jobs was of a social worker at AmeriCorps.
