- Shamma Hamdan grew up in a family of musicians in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In an interview, while talking about her family’s love for music, Shamma said,
We are a musical family, where when we don’t play musical instruments, we sing and dance to music. Music is in our genes.”

- Her grandfather, Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, was a renowned poet and musician from Abu Dhabi.
- She was surrounded by music since childhood and was introduced to music by her father and his brother, who owned a music band that played in the privacy of their homes and for their friends.
- Inspired by her father, Shamma began taking Guitar lessons from him when she was just 5 years old. In an interview, while talking about her first experience with the Guitar, Shamma said,
My fingers were raw and in great pain in the beginning, but now, they can’t rest unless they are resting on a guitar’s chords.”
- She also took singing lessons from her father for a while.
- In 2012, Shamma participated in The X Factor Arabia (Arabs Got Talent), becoming the first Emirati woman ever to make it through to the finals of the hit reality TV show. She was just 18 years old when she auditioned for the show. Shamma impressed the judges with her performance on the acoustic guitar and also by playing other instruments.
