Controversy | Criticised for her dress In 2018, at the closing ceremony of the Cairo Film Festival, Rania Youssef wore a dress showing her legs due to which she was sued by two Egyptian lawyers. She was booked and accused for 'inciting debauchery,' which is an offence punishable by five years in prison. One of the lawyers was quoted saying in an interview that "Rania Youssef's appearance is contrary to traditions, societal values, and morals, and this has harmed the festival and the image of Egyptian women." Soon after, Rania Youssef publicly apologized on her Instagram account for having worn this dress. After her public apology, all the court proceedings were dropped. ((RTL)) |
