- She grew up in a religious household, with her mother being a Catholic and her father a follower of the Church of England.
- While pursuing her PhD. from the University of Cambridge, England, she served as the president of the Trinity College Graduate Student Union.
- She participated in several extracurricular activities at the University, including rowing, playing football, and speaking for the college’s stand-up comedy debating society.
- She also taught Shakespeare to undergraduate students.
- She moved to America in 2008 with her husband, Bryan McLaughlin.
- She has served as the national director of forums at ‘The Veritas Forum’ in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from August 2008 to March 2015, and as the Vice President of Content from April 2015 to September 2017.
- She cofounded Vocable Communications, a consulting firm specialising in speech and presentation, and has served as its founding principal since October 2017.
- In 2019, she wrote ‘Confronting Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World’s Largest Religion’ which was featured on the TED summer reading list.

I knew that same-sex romance was off-limits for Christians, and I thought I would just grow out of it.”
