Some Lesser Known Facts About Bassel Khaiat
- Bassel began his career in the world of acting at the age of eight through children’s theatre.
- Bassel applied several times for admission at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts but was rejected before being finally selected. In an interview, he shared his childhood journey in which he said,
I started out as an athletic kid. Then when I was about 10-years-old, I found myself setting up my own stage in the playground; I transformed it into a theatre with curtains and an audience, and I was mesmerised by this transformation. The next day, I enrolled with the acting team in school and when I finished school I joined the Institute,”
- Bassel was born and raised in a very supportive environment for the arts. His mother belonged to a family of musicians and his father also liked watching movies.
- In 2004, Bassel starred in the series Big Dreams, by Hatem Ali. He won the hearts and received critical acclaim for his role in the series. In the same year, he appeared in the movie The Gate of Sun, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
- Basil fled Syria to France when the Syrian Revolution began. Afterwards, he was banned from entering Syria due to which he was not able to attend his father’s funeral.
- Bassel appeared as a judge in the television show Arab Casting in 2015 alongside Kosai Khauli, Carmen Lebbos and Ghada Abdel Razek. The show aimed to discover the talent among the Arab audience between the ages of 16 and 60 years.
