Controversies Accused Nashwa of distorting religious phrases
In 2017, after her speech at the Catholic Center for Cinema where she was honoured with an award for her artistic career, she was accused of distorting Islamic phrases and flattering Christians at the expense of her own religion on social media. She took to Facebook and defended her speech by calling her critics ignorant and expressing her pride in the award she had received.
Criticised for appearing on television during iddah
After the death of her husband on 28 December 2024, she was criticised for appearing on television during iddah, a waiting period a woman must observe after the death of her husband in Islamic law. In January 2025, she appeared on the TV show, 'Bent El Balad' and responded to the criticism by claiming that she took advice from religious scholars before starting her work during iddah as she was bound by contract, and breaking them might cause her imprisonment as penalty.
